An interactive art hunt, a city-centre music festival and a late Saturday supper: Bangkok has several ways to fill the rest of 17–18 October. This first weekend selection mixes three dated events with seven ongoing experiences, from a free park walk to a paid skyline visit. Pick one main outing and a nearby second stop; the ten ideas are alternatives, not a two-day checklist.

1. Follow the nature spirits at Fortune Teller

Julie Stephen Chheng turns nature into an interactive encounter at One Bangkok. Projection art and the free Fortune Teller AR app invite visitors to discover eight elemental characters, while a curated book corner offers a slower pause. Bring a charged phone if you want to try the digital trail.

The exhibition runs through 15 November, making it an indoor option for either afternoon this weekend.

  • When: 17–18 October; listed exhibition hours are 10am–8pm.
  • Where: Lumphini: The Storeys, second floor, One Bangkok, Wireless Road.
  • Getting there: Follow the venue signs to The Storeys; check separate workshop registration requirements.
  • Budget: Time Out lists exhibition entry as free; check any workshop conditions separately.

2. Look closely at Worldbuilding: Macro/Micro

At River City Bangkok, four artists explore how small details and larger imagined worlds relate to each other. Painting, sculpture and mixed media give you several ways into the exhibition. Take one work at a time, then compare how its sense of scale changes your reading of the next.

It is a current exhibition, open this weekend and continuing until 1 November.

  • When: 17–18 October, during River City’s daily 10am–8pm opening.
  • Where: Talad Noi: RCB Galleria 3, second floor, 23 Charoen Krung Soi 24.
  • Getting there: Use the gallery’s official location map for your approach from Charoen Krung.
  • Budget: Check the gallery for any admission conditions before visiting.

3. Catch an afternoon set at Melody of Life 17

Melody of Life brings live music to centralwOrld for a three-day festival ending on Sunday. Rather than trying to cover every stage, use the published timetable to choose a short run of performances. The official Sun Stage poster lists sets from 3pm to 9.30pm on both remaining days.

This is the most time-sensitive pick: the festival finishes on 18 October.

  • When: Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October; Sun Stage performances 3pm–9.30pm.
  • Where: Ratchaprasong: centralwOrld; consult the event stage map on arrival.
  • Getting there: Check the organiser’s stage schedule and entry information before travelling.
  • Budget: Check the official event page for entry conditions; allow extra for refreshments.

4. Give Sunday morning to Chatuchak

Choose a small mission at Chatuchak: look for ceramics, browse independent clothing stalls or compare the art and antiques sections. A focused route is more manageable than trying to see the whole market. Photograph a map near your entrance so you can find the same meeting point later.

Sunday morning offers a full weekend trading day; the government visitor guide recommends 9am–11am to avoid the strongest heat.

  • When: Saturday–Sunday, 9am–6pm.
  • Where: Chatuchak district: Chatuchak Weekend Market.
  • Getting there: MRT Kamphaeng Phet or BTS Mo Chit; take water and comfortable shoes.
  • Budget: Free entry; shopping and food depend on your choices.

5. Make THAM Street Food your Saturday supper stop

THAM Street Food on Yen Akat Road offers a late meal built around familiar Thai dishes. A bowl of khao tom, listed at 140 baht, followed by mango sticky rice at 120 baht makes a concrete starting point for an order. Add drinks or another dish according to appetite.

This fits Saturday evening specifically: the restaurant lists Sunday as closed, so do not save it for Sunday dinner.

  • When: Saturday 17 October, 8pm–1am the following morning.
  • Where: Yen Akat: 15/1 Yen Akat Road, Chong Nonsi, Yan Nawa.
  • Getting there: Use the official map or call 095 732 7799 to check arrangements.
  • Budget: 260 baht for the two listed dishes, before drinks or other additions.

6. Slow down with a Lumphini Park walk

Leave a gap in your schedule for Lumphini rather than adding another ticketed stop. A gentle walk gives you a change of pace between indoor visits and evening plans. Choose a shorter loop if it is hot, carry water and keep an indoor alternative ready if rain moves in.

The park works as a flexible break on either day, without requiring a timed attraction booking.

  • When: Daily, 4.30am–10pm under the published BMA opening hours.
  • Where: Lumphini: the public park between Rama IV, Ratchadamri and Wireless roads.
  • Getting there: MRT Silom or Lumphini; BTS Sala Daeng is another walking approach.
  • Budget: Free park entry.

7. Take the guided route through Jim Thompson House

The house museum provides a structured visit for anyone who prefers a guided introduction to wandering alone. Join the tour to explore the house and its collection, then leave room in your day for the surrounding Siam area. Visitors enter the house with a guide; this is not a self-guided house tour.

It is a useful daytime counterpoint to the weekend’s contemporary exhibitions.

  • When: Daily, 10am–5pm; the museum lists its final guided tour at 5pm.
  • Where: Pathum Wan: 6 Soi Kasemsan 2, Rama I Road.
  • Getting there: BTS National Stadium, exit 1. Check tour arrangements and accessibility before visiting.
  • Budget: Adult admission: 250 baht, according to the official visitor page.

8. Build a short river outing around the tourist boat

Use the hop-on, hop-off tourist boat to make the river part of the outing itself. Decide on two or three stops before buying a pass, instead of treating every pier as essential. A single journey may suit a short afternoon; the day pass makes more sense if you plan several separate rides.

Sunday gives you time to combine river travel with an Old Town visit.

  • When: Daily service; the operator’s timetable lists departures roughly every 30 minutes.
  • Where: Chao Phraya river: start at Sathorn Pier or another listed stop.
  • Getting there: Sathorn Pier connects with BTS Saphan Taksin; check your pier’s final departure.
  • Budget: 40 baht per single journey or 150 baht for an all-day pass.

9. Choose a clear afternoon for Mahanakhon SkyWalk

For a more expensive outing, take Bangkok in from Mahanakhon SkyWalk. The elevated viewpoint shifts the scale after a morning spent among streets and markets. Before committing to a time slot, check visibility, the ticket inclusions and the operator’s conditions for access to outdoor areas in poor weather.

An afternoon visit can anchor a couple’s weekend plan, with time afterwards for dinner elsewhere.

  • When: Consider an afternoon slot on 17 or 18 October; confirm available admission times online.
  • Where: Silom–Sathorn: King Power Mahanakhon, 114 Narathiwas Road.
  • Getting there: BTS Chong Nonsi, exit 3; use the official booking link.
  • Budget: Premium paid attraction: check the official selector for your chosen time and ticket type.

10. Explore everyday identity at Museum Siam

Museum Siam’s permanent Decoding Thainess exhibition looks at the development of Thai identity through subjects including food, clothing, architecture and traditions. It is a good choice when you want context for things you have encountered around the city, rather than another stop made only for a photograph.

Sunday is a practical day for this visit because the museum’s regular closing day is Monday.

  • When: Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–6pm; closed Monday.
  • Where: Old Town: 4 Sanam Chai Road, Phra Nakhon.
  • Getting there: Use the museum’s official location information and check current admission options.
  • Budget: Consult the official ticket page for the rate applying to your visitor category.

Ongoing experience — not a special event.
